Lisa and Gavin

Updated: Nov 11, 2019

After a 10-year engagement, Lisa and Gavin will never forget the day they received a phone call that changed their lives. “Winning our wedding at Bell City was truly a dream come true. We had been engaged for 10 years, but unable to afford a wedding. It was like winning the lottery!”

The couple’s love story began in their classroom at TAFE, where Lisa caught Gavin’s attention right away “the first thing I noticed was her beautiful smile. I found myself wanting to be around her all of the time, but I didn’t make a move in the beginning because I didn’t think she would be interested in me… I was a bit of a show off,” Gavin laughed.

Although the pair were quite opposite in nature, Lisa too wanted to be around Gavin as much as possible, “he was your typical skater boy and I was a plain Jane. I really wanted to talk and be friends with him, but every time I tried to speak, my words would escape me. I was too shy.

After weeks of awkward encounters and not speaking to one another, Lisa and Gavin had their first conversation, “we hit it off right away and became closer each day, until one afternoon I offered to walk Lisa home and finally built up the courage to ask her out,” said Gavin.

On the couple’s 5-year anniversary Gavin organised a romantic getaway to Aireys Inlet, “after a fun day of horse riding and an intimate dinner, I suggested we go for a walk along the beach. We were under the moonlight when I turned to Lisa, smiled and got down on one knee,” Gavin explained of the magical moment he proposed to Lisa.

After selecting Bell City for their wedding venue, Lisa and Gavin received a phone call that changed their lives, “winning our wedding at Bell City was truly a dream come true. We had been engaged for 10 years, but were unable to afford a wedding.”

The big day finally arrived, Saturday 31 October 2015. Lisa and Gavin’s ceremony was intimate, bright and romantic. Lisa described their wedding style as “casual but elegant”, a day to celebrate happiness, love and family. “We have a home and two beautiful children, but we wanted our family to officially become one”, the couple explained.

Lisa and Gavin’s two children entered the ceremony as page boy and flower girl, while guests tried to hold back the tears. The bride looked radiant in her romantic off-the-shoulder ballgown, “my heart skipped a beat and jaw hit the floor when my beautiful bride walked down the aisle.

She looked like an absolute angel. I am the luckiest man alive,” said Gavin of his new wife.

“When I stepped into the Bell City Marquee and saw Gavin, I had the biggest rush of butterflies. He looked so handsome. I couldn’t wait to be by his side and marry my best friend, soul mate and partner in life,” explained Lisa.

After a heartwarming ceremony, the couple entered their wedding reception as husband and wife. Styled with white roses, candle centrepieces, satin ceiling draping and bright blue orchids, the Bell City Ballroom fit the couple’s elegant but casual wedding style perfectly.

Guests were treated to crab, prawn and avocado with shaved cucumber, alternating with pumpkin and almond tortellini with butternut puree for entrée. Victorian beef eye fillet or chicken wrapped in prosciutto for their main and saving the best until last, white chocolate and Baileys charlotte alternating with chocolate hazelnut pudding.

The night flew by and it was time for the bride and groom’s first dance, “we stole the show with our first dance to ‘Thinking out Loud’ by Ed Sheran. It was such a fun moment when all of our friends and family joined us on the dance floor,” the couple explained.

“Our wedding day was a fairy-tale come true. The Bell City Marquee, Garden Terrace and Ballroom all looked stunning. The food was delicious. We can’t thank Stephanie and the team at Bell City enough. You made our wedding dream come true and it was the most perfect day. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
