After a last minute cancellation of their hot air balloon ride on the couples anniversary, Steve still managed to take Jess’s breath away with a romantic proposal whilst admiring the city skyline from their hotel room.
The couple met one balmy Friday evening at the Lower Plenty Pub, their local watering hole. The pair hit it off immediately and spent the entire night chatting and getting to know one another. However it wasn’t all smooth sailing, “after one too many vodkas, I misheard his name and embarrassingly called him Shane for the rest of the evening…he was too polite to correct me”, Jess laughed.
After months of chatting online and developing a friendship, Jess and Steve went out for dinner and a movie, “we were so nervous on our first real date, we didn’t know whether we should hold hands or not”.
A few years later on their anniversary, the couple had planned to go on a romantic hot air balloon ride overlooking Melbourne. When it was cancelled at the last minute due to inclement weather, Steve couldn’t wait another day and spontaneously proposed while they were admiring the view of the city skyline from their hotel suite.
“It took me by surprise, he spun me around to face him and all of a sudden he was down on one knee; it was such a beautiful moment that we will remember forever”, Jess explained.
It was important to Jess and Steve to find a wedding venue where they could have both their ceremony and reception, “we wanted the ease of having our guests all in the one spot – and the accommodation onsite was a big winner for us”, the couple explained. “We fell in love with the Bell City Ballroom, the tall glass windows and chandeliers were stunning. It was elegant and modern – perfect for our wedding vision!”
Pregnant with their daughter Charlee, the bride-to-be found wedding dress shopping a bit stressful, “I was worried the dress wouldn’t suit me once I lost the baby weight. Luckily I found an amazing designer who helped me create my perfect gown from scratch”, said Jess.
It was the night before their big day, Jess and her bridesmaids, mother Nancy and mother-in-law Jacki, checked in at Mantra Bell City “our rooms were stunning, especially the bridal suite! It was wonderful to have all of the girls with me night before, to relax and get ready together” Jess explained.
Elegantly set with white chairs and pale pink rose petals, Jess and Steve’s closest friends and family took their seats in the lavish Bell City Gardens. Their gorgeous three month old daughter Charlee waited patiently in her father’s arms for her mother to arrive. Steve’s eyes lit up when his daughters Jessie and Sasha entered the gardens, “my stepdaughters made beautiful bridesmaids; it is a great honour to marry their father”, explained Jess.
“We wanted our guests to really experience the love we have for one another, and for our wedding to reflect our personalities. We added personal touches like writing our own vows and a slideshow of our favourite photos played during the reception.”
After a romantic honeymoon in Mount Martha, the couple reflect on their wedding at Bell City; “it was a truly magical day, one we will both cherish forever. We cannot thank Stephanie and the team at Bell City enough for all of their help and support. I know it’s cliché to say so, but the day really does fly. Take it all in.”
